Iona – the ultimate way to see the Norwegian fjords

The Norwegian fjords are a wild wonderland of breathtaking scenery, cultural gems and action-packed adventure. This dramatic destination is on many travellers’ must-visit lists, and for good reason – once you’ve visited the fjords, you’ll never forget them.

Iona begins her inaugural season in this incredible region. With departures throughout the spring and summer of 2020, you’ll have even more opportunities to explore one of the world’s most iconic destinations.

Accomodation Types

There's a range of accommodation types to suit all passengers, including the new Conservatory Mini-Suite cabin; a signature option on Iona.

Aft and Forward Suites are always special, giving guests the ultimate experience of relaxation in their own boutique-hotel haven. A luxurious space is created as the doors of interconnecting rooms open fully to create a larger, brighter studio ambience.

The furniture and material selection is focused on guest relaxation and comfort: light tones create the additional spacious experience. Furniture, including sofas, ottomans and lounge chairs, is upholstered in sands, beiges and off-whites. In the spacious bathroom, the double sink units set in stunning black marble are a striking focal point, surrounded by elegant white marble walls and floor tiling.

As with all suites, guests benefit from the clever configuration of different interior zones with separate lounge and bedroom areas, segregated dressing areas and spacious en suite bathrooms. All suites have direct access to large balconies and benefit from a range of exclusive Suite services, such as a personal Butler and a range of in-suite dining options.

Conservatory Mini-Suite Cabins

The Conservatory Mini-suite cabin is an exciting new addition to the choice of accommodation and a signature option on Iona.

The concept brings the outdoors in with a personal and versatile conservatory-style room that forms an extension to the cabin. It offers great flexibility and creates a distinctive relaxation and socialising zone. This space, which includes stylish L-shaped seating, can be closed off or left open according to the time of day or mood.

By day or in the evenings, the room opens out fully onto the balcony. With a direct connection to the sea, the space is cool and shaded - and perfect for chilling out in. In the evenings, it transforms into a spacious environment for private celebrations and socialising over pre-dinner drinks with friends and family. Leading directly onto the balcony, all configurations of this flexible space offer glorious seascape views.

Balcony Cabins

The sea is the star on Iona and the Balcony accommodation gives guests the chance to enjoy it to the full, whether travelling solo or in a larger group.

There are four options to choose from – Deluxe (the most spacious), Balcony, Single and Standard Balcony – all of which offer an extended private space in which to relax and unwind. From enjoying a cup of tea in the morning to watching the sun set with a drink, guests can relax in their own private area. Balcony cabins also allow greater flexibility for outdoor dining using the Room Service menu.

For larger groups and families, the internal spaces have been skilfully designed to include attractive built-in drop-down bunk beds and flexible sleeping arrangements that maximise space and seating by day and provide comfortable bedding by night.

Sea View Cabins

Here, too, the design and choices of colours and materials optimises the seaside feel. Porthole mirrors, blue feature walls and soft furnishings and accessories in gold and white textiles bring a sense of light and relaxation to the interior space.

The clever design of these cabin types maximises storage options and all cabins boast the personal touches that create a stylish and homely atmosphere - including tea and coffee-making facilities (with tasty biscuits provided daily), a well-stocked fridge, in-cabin TV with a host of channels to choose from, and a bathroom boasting soft cotton towels and quality toiletries courtesy of The White Company.

Salcombe Gin Distillery

Iona’s exciting collaboration with Salcombe Gin

We’re collaborating with award-winning gin distiller, Salcombe Gin, to create exclusive gins on Iona! Infused with the rich fruit-trading heritage of the beautiful coastal town of Salcombe, Salcombe Gin shares our zest for adventure and discovering new and exciting flavours. Together, we’re creating a gin recipe that’s tailored to the bold and daring spirit of Iona.

The very first distillery at sea

The gins maiden production will take place in Iona’s custom-made still; innovated by Craft Distilling Business, this is the first still to exist at sea. The unique gin will be distilled, bottled and labelled on board, allowing Iona’s guests to be the first to enjoy our deliciously smooth and one-of-a-kind gin.

A beautifully balanced recipe

Ready your senses for the taste-tingling flavours of a classic yet unrivalled gin and tonic. Or maybe you fancy our gin recipe in a beautifully created cocktail? Bottles of our exclusive gin can even be purchased on Iona—the perfect gift to share (or maybe not share!) back home.

Celebrate your journey with a unique gin

Following the gin’s launch on Iona, Salcombe Gin will distil our recipe in their striking 450 litre copper still ‘Provident’ in Salcombe, ready to share and serve across our ships. This special recipe is made exclusively for P&O Cruises. And we aren’t stopping there. We’re also working with Salcombe Gin to develop limited-edition gins that celebrate the places you experience and connect with on a P&O Cruises holiday. Let the gin-making adventure begin.

Snowflake Luxury Gelato

Blending the best of both British and Italian culture, Snowflake’s gelato chefs have handpicked their ingredients. Creamy organic Jersey milk (from a family farm in Somerset) combine with berries from Kent and nuts grown on the Italian slopes of Piedmont. Handmade using traditional Italian techniques and served at a perfect temperature for a velvety softness, it’s a taste experience you simply have to try.

Ripples, Iona’s gelateria, will provide the perfect setting for a well-earned treat. Situated at the top of the atrium with access to Promenade Deck, there’s lots on offer. Choose from traditional cornets as well as gelato cakes, sundaes, customisable sticks, cookies and the creamiest milkshakes. And for the ultimate experience? A three-tiered gelato afternoon tea. Scoops of gelato are also available in Sundaes, found in Iona’s SkyDome.

A range of artisanal flavours, all lovingly handcrafted from quality ingredients. Snowflake's moreish Sea Salted Caramel gelato, a zingy Raspberry sorbetto (a Great Taste award Supreme Champion) and a mellow Hazelnut gelato are sure to tempt you. Not to mention Kinder gelato made with the family favourite, Kinder Bueno. If you’re a vegan, fear not: there are delights such as Banoffee vegan gelato to look forward to.

Innovators at heart, Snowflake’s gelato chefs have also devised a bespoke flavour for Iona: a unique flavour inspired by the ingredients and flavours of the region. It could be your favourite taste of the holiday.

Little eyes are sure to be all the wider at the sight of Iona’s gelateria menu. And with items such as sticks and cookies with customisable toppings, you can expect smiles all round.
