Important Update for Our Valued Customers: Navigating the New European Entry and Exit System (EES)

We at Sussex Cruise Club are always excited to help you embark on your next adventure. Today, we want to share some important updates regarding travel to Europe, specifically about the new Entry and Exit System (EES) being implemented by the European Union.
Understanding the EES
The EES is an electronic system designed to streamline border crossings within Europe by replacing manual passport checks and physical stamping with automated gates. This system, initially set to launch on November 10, 2024, has been delayed, providing travellers more time to understand and prepare for the changes.
What This Means for You
On your first entry into Europe under the new system, you'll be asked to scan your passport at an automated gate, have your photograph taken, and provide a fingerprint scan. These details will be securely stored, simplifying your future travels to Europe by omitting these steps on subsequent visits.
Special Exemptions
Irish Passport Holders: You are exempt from the EES.
British Passport Holders with EU Residency: You are also exempt from this new requirement.
For those traveling via Eurostar, the good news is that the EES will be operational at St Pancras station, meaning your entry will be processed there without the need for further checks upon arrival in Europe.
Potential Delays and Recommendations
While the EES is expected to eventually speed up going through passport control, initial implementations may lead to longer queues and delays. During the system's first six months, flexibility will be applied to manage these queues effectively. We recommend that all travellers allow extra time for airport security checks during this period.

Looking Ahead: European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS)
Please note that the EES is distinct from the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), which is a separate visa system scheduled for launch in mid-2025. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
