Royal Clipper

Inspired by the tall ship Preussen, the Royal Clipper has the proud distinction of being the largest and only five-masted full-rigged sailing ship built since her predecessor was launched at the beginning of the last century.

For connoisseurs of sail cruising, the 134 metres Royal Clipper offers the ultimate sea-going experience, balancing the grandeur, adventure and tradition of sailing with the superb service, amenities and accommodations of the finest modern yacht. Royal Clipper carries just 227 guests in luxurious style. A full 1760 square metres of open deck and three swimming pools create a wonderfully spacious and expansive outdoor environment.

Find your secret hideaway on one of the hidden balconies on eiter side of the bow. Or climb the mast (with safty harness provided) to one of the passenger look out 'crow's-nests', where you'll have the grandest view of all! Royal Clipper's interior spaces are just as dazzling.

They include a three-deck atrium that funnels sunlight into the elegantly appointed dining room, featuring deliciously prepared cuisine and a no-tie dress code. A convenient marina platform lowers from the stern for watersports. And the ultimate unique Royal Clipper experience, the one-of-a-kind Captain Nemo Lounge, is the site of our spa and health club with underwater glass portholes.

Dining

The majestic three-level atrium Dining Room features a single-seating, open-seating dining plan with varied international fare and a no-tie dress code.

Clipper Dining Room

Experience complimentary · Cuisine varies

When you rise, help yourself to a continental breakfast with Parisian croissants or sweet Danish pastries. Or savour a full breakfast with fresh tropical fruit and crisp bacon, grilled sausage and omelettes cooked to order in the dining room.

At lunch, a marvellous buffet of seafood, salads and grilled favourites awaits your pleasure. If the day includes a stop at one of the paradisical islands we frequent, you might also be treated to a succulent outdoor barbecue on shore.

When evening comes, our elegantly appointed dining room becomes the setting for the chef’s finest culinary presentations, designed to please the eye and the palate, complemented by a selection of equally fine wines.

You’ll find our service to be friendly and gracious, befitting a tasteful restaurant. Of course, we would not presume to dictate your seating preferences. On all three ships, you are free to dine when and with whomever you wish - including with our officers, who join our guests in the dining room most nights. The dress code? No need for formal gowns and black tie, casual elegance is the order of the day and every single night.

Entertainment

Clearly, this is not a cruise ship in the ordinary sense. On Star Clippers, you will find that there are no rigid schedules. You are free to do as you wish with your days – and evenings.

Now, is there anything more relaxing than this?

Friends gather round the piano bar and join in singing a few favorites. And in the Tropical Bar, the bartender shakes a pitcher full of some delicious cooling concoction.

The Captain and crew are superb improvisers of the kind of light-hearted fun you’ll only find on Star Clippers. The Captain’s daily briefing on deck is wonderfully informative and a chance to hear some great story-telling as well.

Our passengers tell us that it’s the easy-going informality that makes a cruise with us so enjoyable.

Enjoy many activities on the outdoor decks, free water sports, yoga classes and various entertainment. In fact, our passengers tell us that it’s the easy-going informality of Star Clippers that makes a cruise with us so enjoyable and like no other.

Observation Lounge

If your time isn't taken up by searching out distant lands from the crow’s nest or enjoying a lovingly prepared meal in the dining room; you can always take a seat in the Observation Lounge. Gather round the piano bar and join in singing a few favourites.

Tropical Bar

The indoor-outdoor Tropical Bar is situated on the Main Deck at the heart of the ship where passengers congregate throughout the day and into the wee hours of the night. This area can accommodate everyone on board and is the center for the nightly entertainment program as well as the focal point for all on-board activity and events.

Library

Located to the aft end of the Main Deck’s open space extending beyond the Tropical Bar is the Ship’s Library. With a maximum capacity of about 50 persons, it is ideal for a small group meeting. However, its main use is for quiet reading from the bookshelves that add rich colour to the chamber. It is not uncommon to find passengers enjoying a game of chess, backgammon, gin rummy, bridge or checkers by the fireplace located in the center of the library’s aft wall. By virtue of U.S. Coast Guard safety guidelines restricting open fires on commercial vessels, the fire in the fireplace is an electric simulation. Yet, it still emanates a warm, reflective glow that creates a relaxing old-world atmosphere.

Sloop Shop

The ship’s store offers a wide variety of items and Star Clippers’ unique range of clothing. The shop is open every day (except on embarkation day) from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and depending on the times of call and customs regulations.

Local Music and Arts

An authentic taste of the local music and arts

To entertain you at certain ports, we invite local performers, folk groups or musicians to liven up your evenings on board and our crew members are always ready to entertain you with games and nautical activities.

So rather than enduring another Broadway show, you can enjoy the conviviality of fellow shipmates while a live band plays tropical tunes from a real paradise.

Enrichment

Cruise itineraries of three to 14 nights include sailings through the east and west Mediterranean, Costa Rica and the Caribbean, Panama Canal transits, with Trans-Atlantic crossings at the start and end of each summer season. Because the vessels are smaller than conventional cruise ships, they can call into ports untouched by larger craft.

For connoisseurs of sailing, an ocean crossing is the ultimate sea-going experience, balancing the grandeur, adventure and tradition of open-ocean sailing with a sprinkling of exciting port calls, superb service, delicious cuisine and amenities and accommodations seasoned cruisers have come to expect.

Shore Excursions

A wide variety of exceptional shore excursions are offered in the many extraordinary destinations Star Clippers visits around the world to enhance your journey. Don't miss your opportunity to immerse yourself in the local history, culture, art, architecture and beauty located in each region by taking advantage of these carefully crafted tours offering an insight into the locale's true identity. Of course, all shore excursions are optional, and you can chose which one you'd like or just explore on your own. The staff is available for suggestions and sign up is done right on board, in most cases. For a preview of what is offered in each port, you can find the details right on our website.

Theme Cruises

For travelers seeking a deeper, more immersive cruise experience, theme cruises offer a unique opportunity to indulge in personal passions while sailing to stunning destinations. These specially curated voyages bring together experts in various fields—gastronomy, wine, wellness, and more—to enhance the journey with exclusive events and activities.

On select sailings, guests will have the chance to learn from renowned chefs, sommeliers, yoga teachers, and wellness specialists, each bringing a wealth of expertise to the onboard experience. Enjoy engaging lectures, hands-on cooking demonstrations, and expertly guided wine tastings, all designed to inspire and educate. Wellness enthusiasts can benefit from expert-led sessions focused on relaxation, mindfulness, and holistic well-being, including yoga classes tailored for all skill levels.

Whether you're a food and wine connoisseur, a yoga enthusiast, or someone looking to unwind and rejuvenate, a theme cruise offers a memorable way to connect with like-minded travelers while deepening your knowledge in a relaxed, elegent setting.

Watersports

Water sports for all tastes!

On beach stops our sports team can offer you: kayaks, paddle boards and dinghies as well as water skiing and windsurfing. Enjoy your favourite water sports during the cruise or take the opportunity to try something new.

Snorkelling

Close your eyes and imagine you are soaking up the sun on a white sandy beach in the Caribbean; crystal clear waters invite you to explore the underwater world of coral reefs and colourful tropical fish. Star Clippers hands out snorkelling equipment to all passengers upon arrival on board, so all you have to do is dive in and explore.

Sailor for a day!

Life on the ocean is one big adventure! Discover the sailing techniques used by our marine experts. Our crew will help you to hoist the sails, climb the mast, and tie marine knots. You will learn the names of the different sails and how to use a sextant. When evening comes and the velvety darkness is punctuated by stars, our officers will show you how to navigate at night with the help of the stars.

Exclusive Sailing Destinations

Star Clippers takes you to the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and Central America, far from all the crowds and congested harbours.

Our tenders or zodiac service allow you to go ashore in comfort and disembark either in port or directly on the beach, so you are free to set off and explore each destination. On Royal Clipper, a specially designed marine platform can be lowered to sea level, so you can enjoy water sports directly from the ship!

Lookout Stations

Lookout stations have been created at the first yardarm on each of the masts. Equipped with high safety rails, and a comfortable teak settee for lounging at ease, passengers can observe all the action below and out to the edge of the horizon. Passengers wishing to climb to the lookout posts slip on a ship supplied safety vest tethered to a watchful crew member on the deck, who keeps the safety line secured as they make the easy ascent up one of the ratlines. All three Star Clippers ships offer this exciting activity that is bound to be one of the highlights of a Star Clippers cruise.

Health & Fitness

Captain Nemo Lounge

Pamper yourself in the spa and health club, located in the unique Captain Nemo Lounge. Here you will even find underwater glass portholes which mean that even the secrets of the deep are open to those who sail aboard Royal Clipper cruises. The Captain Nemo Lounge, a Thalasso, Health and Beauty Centre offer services such as massages, facial treatments, body treatments and hydrotherapy.

There is a spa, gym and sauna on board.

Swimming Pools

Three swimming pools offer cool refreshment for sunbathers on deck. The pools can use either salt or fresh water. All pools feature-stepped sides. The main pool is inset into the Piano Bar Lounge ceiling and has a uniquely designed glass bottom and side porthole design which filters light down through a three-level atrium to the Dining Room below.

Gymnastic Classes

Activities such as morning gymnastic classes, swimming in one of the on-board pools, or taking part of the exciting shore excursions are always an option for passengers.

Kids & Teens

Children are welcome onboard Star Clippers cruises. While there is no structure programme providing supervision and care for young children, they are invited to participate in shipboard activities suited to their ability. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Children occupying cabins as the third person will be charged the third person rate when availability permits.

Shore Excursions

The information below is a summary of important reminders about the excursions offered on board. Information meetings giving a detailed overview of each trip are organized by the Cruise Director. We recommend that you attend.

Important note: Star Clippers’ liability is limited to the ship itself. Star Clippers may sell tickets for shore excursions or arrange other services for its clients from independent contractors. However, it cannot under any circumstances be held liable for loss, damage, injury or death resulting from services provided on land or any other service provided or offered in addition to the cruise. Star Clippers reserves the right to edit, cancel, or modify the itinerary of each tour programme as necessary. Tour schedules vary depending on time of arrival and departure at ports of call.

Excursion programme: consists of day or half day trips that allow you to discover the main attractions of each portwithin the expected duration of the call. Access to some monuments may be restricted or impossible during national or regional holidays.

Reservation and payment: for excursions may be reserved on board ship on a “first come, first served” basis. No registrations or cancellations will be accepted after the closing date announced on board by the Cruise Director. Excursions are paid for at the end of cruise.

Prices: The price for excursions is subject to change in case of unexpected increase in the cost of providing land services and exchange rate fluctuations.

Cancellations: Excursions may be cancelled without penalty before the closing date announced on board by the Cruise Director. After closing date, a 100% fee will be charged for cancellation made within 24 hours prior to the call. No refunds will be possible for passengers who only participate in a portion of the excursion. Only a limited number of participants allowed: It is possible that the number of participants will be limited on certain excursions in certain ports due to a limited capacity in terms of transportation, guides and logistics. Excursions will not take place unless a minimum number of participants is reached.

Bus Tours: Coaches used for excursions are air-conditioned whenever possible. Star Clippers select the best vehicles available in each port of call. However, their quality can vary considerably from one port to another depending on local standards and availability.

Tour guides: Our representative in each port selects the best local tour guides. You will find knowledgeable tour guides at most destinations. However the quality of the tour guides is likely to be lower in certain ports, simply because tourism there is less developed. All our excursions are led by English-speaking guides. A second language may be used, depending on the number of non-English-speaking passengers. However, in some ports or geographical areas it may be difficult or impossible to have other language than English.

Tips during excursions: This is left to your discretion. However, a small gratuity is a nice way to thank someone for the quality of his or her work.

Dress Code: The dress code for all excursions is casual. In certain countries, or when visiting religious sites, classic, modest clothing may be required. We recommend that you leave your valuables and jewellery on the ship during visits ashore. Jewellery may well attract unwanted attention. Remember to protect yourself from the sun, wear appropriate walking shoes, and carry a bottle of water.

Mealtimes on board: Mealtimes are programmed and adapted according to the hours of port calls, departure and return times from excursions.

Age Restrictions

Star Clippers cannot accommodate infants under six months of age. Children are accepted on board from 6 months old, however, there is no children's club or babysitting available on our ships.

The minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages is 21.

It is forbidden for unaccompanied children to run or play on the decks, in corridors and stairwells as well as near the pool.

Dress Code

Star Clippers maintains a smart casual dress code: Beach or resort-wear on deck during the day and casual during the evening. Deck shoes are the best footwear for daytime. There is one Captain’s dinner on each cruise where people dress up a little more, but there are no black-tie events or formal nights.

Fire Safety

Although the construction of the vessel has required the use of modern materials that are fire retardant and fireproof, fire remains a concern. Thank you for respecting the following rules.

  • Do not smoke inside the cabins
  • Do not throw cigarette butts over board
  • Do not light candles or other objects of this type
  • It is forbidden to iron clothes in the cabin

Laundry and Dry-Cleaning Service

Laundry services are available onboard for a nominal charge. Dry-cleaning is available only on Royal Clipper, for a nominal charge.

Lifeboat Drills

International Maritime Law requires a lifeboat drill to take place at the beginning of each cruise. All guests must attend this compulsory and important exercise. During the drill, all ship’s services will be suspended.

Your assigned lifeboat station, the location of life jackets and the signal for lifeboat and fire drills are clearly explained on the emergency card posted on your cabin’s door. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the safety instructions it contains. When the alarm is sounded, put on your life jacket according to the instructions given over the public address system. An officer will direct you to your boat station, answer any questions you might have and check that your jacket is properly secured.

Your close attention during this drill is of paramount importance for your safety.

Lost & Found

All items found on board are deposited in the Purser’s office. When leaving the ship, make sure you leave nothing in the drawers, trunks, or closets in your cabin. Star Clippers is not liable for articles left behind.

Medical Services

Medical services are provided by a doctor during long distance crossings and by trained nurses from the Star Clippers’ staff on other cruises . All of the ship’s officers are also able to administer first aid. When the ship conducts coastal navigation, it is always near a hospital on land, and can deal with the possibility of a passenger requiring hospital care. Passengers requiring special medication are advised to take their prescriptions along with them. The nurse only provides very basic medicine, which is sold without prescription.

People who take special prescription medication (insulin for diabetic patients, for example) are requested to provide

a letter from their doctor providing the following information:  Full name of the treating physician  Ailment treated by the prescription medication, daily dosage, the amount needed during the trip  Stipulation that the medication is necessary for the welfare of passengers when travelling abroad

It is also recommended that you carry the medication in their original packaging along with the doctor’s prescription, as this may be requested when clearing customs or immigration. We advise you to keep your medication with you in your hand luggage. Passengers requiring special medical care are encouraged to inform Star Clippers in writing prior to departure. The crew will be informed and will be able to assist where needed.

Safety Rules

It is essential that you observe certain simple safety rules while on board:

  • Use ashtrays for cigarette butts and used matches. Please do not throw cigars or cigarettes over board - they can be blown back onto the ship, and could cause a fire. It is forbidden to smoke in your cabin and inside the ship.
  • Never run on board the ship, walk carefully, especially if the decks are wet or slippery.
  • We ask women to avoid high/ pointed heel shoes as they can damage the teak decks.

IN CASE OF ROUGH SEAS:

  • Avoid going out on to the decks
  • Hold on to handrails in stairways and corridors
  • Doors must be closed in case of heavy seas. Use the handles and never hold a door by its frame as a sudden movement of the ship could cause it to close on your hand.
  • Make sure your bags are secure in your cabin and if necessary, call your steward
  • Secure any objects in the bathroom and on your dressing table that could fall

Smoking Policy

Passengers can smoke in designated areas on deck.

Phone and Email

Each cabin is equipped with direct dial telephone so you can make calls to anywhere in the world. Calls are charged to your onboard account. Please note that calls made via satellite are extremely expensive. If a caller wishes to contact you by telephone on board, they should contact the Star Clippers’ office who will forward the call to the ship.

If you want to purchase Internet data on your personal device, open your browser window and the ship’s internet login portal will load. You can receive emails on board our three ships via the Purser.

  • Star Clipper: scpax@star-clipper.net
  • Star Flyer: sfpax@star-flyer.net
  • Royal Clipper: rcpax@royalclipper.net

These emails will be printed and delivered to your cabin for a nominal charge.

In an emergency, contact your travel agency under the phone number provided to you or the Star Clippers’ office at the number listed in your documentation. In case you are unable to reach anyone at that number, Star Clippers has a 24-hour emergency telephone number: +1 305-773-3541.

Alcohol

For security reasons, it is forbidden to bring alcoholic beverages on board for personal consumption. For your pleasure, the ship offers a wide selection of wines and spirits in the dining room or at the bar. The Maître d’Hôtel, wine waiters and bartenders will guide you in your choice. Bottles of alcohol purchased on land will be taken into safekeeping at the gangway of the ship, stored in a secure area, and returned when you disembark.
